Hey everyone, 👋
I left the big social feeds because the recommendation algorithm kept serving me the same thing many times over, plus a steady supply of outright garbage. So I did what a lot of you did: went to RSS, where I pick the sources.
That fixed the inputs. It did not fix the reading.
Once you are past thirty or forty feeds, a purely chronological timeline stops being usable. The usual answer is more folders and more filters — which is me doing an algorithm's job by hand, badly.
Sitting with that for a while, the conclusion I reached was that the algorithm is a fixable problem now, for a reason that did not exist a few years ago: you can hand an AI a sentence about what you want and have it come out as a real change to a ranking function.
So: your own sources, and your own algorithm on top of them. That is the thing I built.

What is the next best simple RSS reader?
submitted by /u/Lance_RobertsI’m using FreshRSS and trying to get RSS feeds from Associated Press and Reuters, but the usual methods aren’t working properly.
Since they’ve deprecated their official feeds, what’s the best way to get them now? Any working tricks, APIs, or alternatives?
Thanks!
submitted by /u/Snorlax_laxAs I'm trying to escape the creeping negative influence of technology in my life, I want to make a commitment to limiting the amount of time I spend on social media apps, especially the awful invention that is "infinite scroll".
I believe fighting the addiction to my phone would be a *lot* easier if I could simply combine all of my followed profiles on YouTube, Instagram, and Reddit into *one feed* which is chronological and doesn't insist on feeding me garbage I didnt ask for.
However, it seems like doing so is difficult, because big tech companies deliberately make it impossible to view content outside of their walled garden.
I would love if someone could provide pointers for how a dumbass like me can synthesize all of the content I find interesting in one place. I am willing to try any solution, no matter how hacky, to make it happen. (I am on Android if that's relevant.)
Any tips are appreciated 🙏🙏
submitted by /u/ProvolooooneI recently started using RSS and self hosted FreshRSS, and I’m really liking it so far.
One thing I’m trying to figure out is Hacker News. When I add it to FreshRSS, it only shows the original source link instead of the actual news or article content.
Is there any way to get the news content directly in FreshRSS without having to open the original links every time?
Any tips or recommended setup?
EDIT: The same thing is happening with Phoronix. It’s showing the title and short description instead of the full article.

submitted by /u/Significant-Flan5228San Francisco Bay area newspapers owned by MediaNews Group (East Bay Times, Mercury News, Marin Independent Journal) have for a long time published RSS feeds for various sections of their sites. For example, the source code for the Mercury News homepage currently includes the following link to an article feed:
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="The Mercury News » Feed" href="https://www.mercurynews.com/feed/" /> My feed reader software indicates that these feeds all quit working on March 9th. When I try to load any of them directly in my browser, I get an HTTP 403 error.
Does anyone know what happened and how we might get them to fix it? I tried contacting them via a form but never heard back.

submitted by /u/Significant-Flan5228Hey r/rss!
A few days ago, I posted here introducing RadarRSS—an open-source, AI-curated modern news dashboard aimed at reimagining how we consume RSS feeds.
Thanks to the valuable feedback and discussion on my previous post, I just pushed a new release with several improvements to make the experience cleaner, faster, and more practical:
Refined Dashboard UI: Polished the feed layout to minimize clutter and give a true "modern newsroom" feel instead of a plain feed list.
Smarter AI Curation & Summaries: Fine-tuned the AI categorization and summarization layer to highlight key takeaways faster and reduce redundant articles.
Better Feed Organization: Enhanced auto-tagging and filtering so you can easily track high-priority topics across multiple feeds.
Performance & Stability Tweaks: Optimized feed fetching and overall responsiveness.
The goal is still to build a lightweight, open-source alternative for anyone looking for something more dynamic than traditional readers like FreshRSS, Miniflux, or Feedly.
🔗 Release & Source Code: https://github.com/dznass-cmd/RadarRSS
Would love to hear your thoughts on these updates—especially regarding the layout and AI curation flow. Any suggestions on what to tackle next?
submitted by /u/Significant-Flan5228I've always liked RSS, but I wanted something that felt more like a modern news dashboard instead of a traditional feed reader.
So I built RadarRSS.
The idea is simple:
It's still an early project, so I'm mainly looking for feedback.
What I'd really like to know:
What would make you actually switch from FreshRSS, Miniflux, Newsboat, Feedly, etc.?
GitHub: https://github.com/dznass-cmd/RadarRSS
I'd especially appreciate criticism about the UI, RSS workflow and AI features.

I an setting up rss feed news on my ios device and i downloaded few and liked these two. (Not downloaded news exp. cuz its not free to try).
Has anyone used both or any? Can anyone share advise on this
submitted by /u/LeadEnvironmental331I think the title pretty much sums it up. I used to get feeds from a few profiles on X, as I'd rather have everything centralised, searchable and archivable rather than just go to X to search for specific posts from people I wanna read everything. So, any (free) alternatives to Nitter/XCalcel so I can turn X's posts into RSS?
submitted by /u/TsavkkoI want to buy podcast subscriptions to get rid of ads. Unfortunately most providers no longer offer rss feeds for itunes (they used to) I like adding the private RSS because you can download the mp3 and put it on and old mp3 player, like the tiny clip-on shuffle mp3 player. I don't like carrying phones or looking at screens when I'm exercising.
submitted by /u/lshrtwllI wanted an RSS reader that didn't turn my reading list into someone's dataset. Most Chrome extensions want an account and sync your subscriptions to their servers, so I built my own.
Canopy Reader has no backend at all. Feeds and read state live in chrome.storage, and the extension makes exactly one kind of network request — to the feeds you added yourself. No account, no analytics, no paid tier. About 50 KB.
Three-panel layout, RSS 2.0 and Atom, feed autodiscovery from a site URL, folders, OPML import/export, unread badges, background refresh, j/k/r/m/u/o keyboard nav, light/dark.
What it doesn't have: a filtering rules engine, social/YouTube feed adapters, or cross-device sync (that needs a server, which defeats the point).
Coming from another reader — import your OPML and subscriptions and folders come across in one step.
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/canopy-reader-rss-feed-re/lnfnfpjiohnjlmagagpokbadejelnflg
I wrote it, so salt accordingly. Mainly after feedback on what's missing.
submitted by /u/vikas991I have been working on PressPlayed, a mobile-first RSS reader built for listening instead of scanning.
You can select publishers you already trust and group their feeds into briefings. If the subject matters more than the publisher, you can also enter something like “housing market” or “Fed interest rates”; PressPlayed finds relevant current coverage across sources and builds the briefing. Articles are extracted server-side and narrated continuously in the browser.
It also supports a narrator choice, language filtering, a minimum article length, played-article skipping, and muted words or phrases.
I would especially value feedback from people who already care about RSS:
There is a public audio sample and a short mobile tour here: https://pressplayed.com/tour.html?utm_source=reddit-rss&utm_campaign=first100
Access is free and does not require a credit card. I run this account for the product and am happy to answer technical or product questions.
submitted by /u/PressPlayedAppHey everyone,
I've been working on NewsGator, an open-source project I'd like to share with you.
You follow 50 RSS feeds in 5 different languages, get 12 newsletters a day, and end up reading nothing because sorting through it all takes too much time. Traditional aggregators give you 3-line teasers, you click through, find 10 articles about the same thing, and you've wasted 20 minutes.
Stack: FastAPI + SQLite (+ sqlite-vec or Qdrant) + SvelteKit, single docker compose.
> 🔗 Demo & docs: https://tekka90.github.io/NewsGator/

submitted by /u/wWA5RnA4n2P3w2WvfHqHi everyone,
I wanted to share a Chrome extension I recently developed called RSS Bulucu (RSS Finder).
It is designed to be a lightweight, modern, and powerful tool that automatically scans the website you are visiting to discover any open or hidden RSS and Atom feeds within seconds.
Key Features:
The extension currently supports Turkish, but the UI is highly intuitive and easy to use for anyone looking to hunt down feed URLs.
You can check it out here on the Chrome Web Store:

I would love to get your feedback, feature suggestions, or any bug reports! Thank you for checking it out.
submitted by /u/FirefighterFit6774Hi, Is there a way to get historical news data free?
I have been using google news rss and newsapi org
both has its own restriction, large number of google news call result in ip getting marked as spam and news api can go back only 1 month in free tier.
I'm building an interactive macroeconomic world map. I've hit a dead end with raw web scraping, Google News search parameters (which fail to isolate country context), and GDELT.
I need to surface 3–5 fresh macro/econ headlines when a user clicks a country. Since commercial APIs are expensive and client-side RSS is unreliable:
1 - Is caching pre-fetched direct national RSS feeds (WSJ, BBC, Reuters) via a daily cron job the standard pattern here?
2 - Are there open-source scrapers or self-hosted news aggregation pipelines (like FreshRSS/Miniflux setups) that handle geographic mapping cleanly?
Idk what to do anymore at this stage, any ideas?
Hi everyone,
I’m getting ready to launch a new RSS reader on Google Play, and I’m looking for a few RSS users who would be willing to join the closed testing group and try the app on their Android phones, tablets, or Chromebooks.
Google Play requires a closed testing period before the app can move forward with its public release, so your help would be genuinely appreciated.
The app will be paid when it is publicly released, but I plan to give complimentary access to the people who help by participating in this testing group.
If you’d like to join, please send me your Google Play email address via private message so I can add you to the tester list. Please don’t post your email publicly in the comments.
Once you’ve been added, I’ll send you a private message with the Google Play testing link and simple instructions on how to install the app.
You don’t need to do anything complicated. Just using the app normally and letting me know if you encounter bugs, crashes, layout issues, or anything that feels confusing would already be a huge help.
Thanks to anyone willing to participate!
submitted by /u/gricizgiHi there!
My favourite full text RSS feed provider moRSS.it has recently been malfunctioning (https://github.com/pictuga/morss/issues/154).
I've been wondering ever since whether there are any other tools like moRSS.it online, that allow anyone to make a full text RSS feed from any webpage FOR FREE.
Do you have any ideas? Thanks in advance
submitted by /u/brygada_sfmI genuinely think RSS is more relevant than ever in 2026.
There’s so much content online now, and RSS is still one of the few ways to say: these are the people and websites I actually want to hear from.
No algorithm trying to guess what else might keep me scrolling. If I follow soccer, I want soccer - not hockey, random influencers, or whatever else an algorithm wants to test on me.
I use RSS every day for work, hobbies, and keeping up with writers I like. And despite all the AI-generated noise, there are still plenty of people writing genuinely good articles on their own blogs (http://www.aaronsw.com/2002/feeds/pgessays.rss, https://daringfireball.net/feeds/main , https://simonwillison.net/atom/entries/ , https://pluralistic.net/feed/) among many others.
The one thing that always bothered me: if someone I care about publishes something, I usually won’t know until I remember to check my RSS app.
That’s basically why I built Hushread.
It keeps checking the sources you follow even while you’re asleep. Under the hood, I run a VPS with proxies that keeps polling the pages you follow. The moment it finds something new, if you’ve turned notifications on for that source, you get a push notification.
That’s it. No big AI pitch, no fluff. This was genuinely the problem I wanted solved for myself.
I’d love more actual RSS users to try it, so I’m giving away 50 Pro accounts ($14.99/year) to people who comment here.
No review or 5-star rating needed. I’d much rather hear what you genuinely like or hate about it.
submitted by /u/Firm-Sir-7759Hey everyone! I’m an independent Android developer and I built World News Reader to make following global RSS feeds and international news clean, fast, and distraction-free—without algorithms or clutter.
I just rolled out an update with features specifically tailored for RSS power users and wanted to share it with the community.
Core Features & What's New:
👉 Get it on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.merpower.worldnewsreader
I'd love to hear your feedback, feed recommendations, or ideas on what RSS-specific tools you'd like to see next. If you'd like to follow the roadmap or suggest feeds directly, feel free to drop by r/MerpowerApps.
If you find the app useful, an honest rating or review on Google Play really helps support continuous solo development!
submitted by /u/Nearby-Mix-7175I built WechRss because WeChat OA has no official RSS. It identifies the account from any article link, logs in via Weread QR, and generates independent RSS feeds stored in local SQLite. Default bind is localhost, supports Basic Auth/CSRF. Doesn't scrape full text. MIT. Repo: https://github.com/johamwon/wechrss
submitted by /u/Technical_Second4617I made Nook, a native RSS reader for Mac and iPhone. It also writes.
The reading half is boring in the best way: folders, OPML in and out, offline storage, reader mode, regex keyword filters, refreshes on the OS scheduler instead of a push service.
I invented nothing here, I just kept adding whatever annoyed me that week. No account, and nothing about reading phones home.
The writing half is the interesting part. Publish a post and it becomes a record in your own AT Protocol repository, the same kind a Bluesky account has.
The page and the feeds are generated from that record, which is the real copy rather than a row in my database, so you can take it and leave. Microblog, normal blog, or yelling into the void with a valid feed, all fine.
You will check the feed anyway, so: full post in content:encoded, guid is the record's AT URI with isPermaLink="false", Atom beside every RSS.
Mine: https://nooker.app/@tim/feed.xml
"Will this be gone in six months?" Fair question. I read with it every day, so my reason to keep it alive is selfish, and I run it cheap on purpose. Whatever it does today, I plan to keep doing. If the bill ever gets scary, it means I either got greedy with features or this got popular, and if it is the second one I will gladly go find the money.
Reading is free, no ads, no subscription. Publishing needs an invite code for now and there is an open one on the download page. Needs macOS 26 or iOS 18, and on an older Mac with Apple silicon the iOS build works too.
Download: https://www.nooker.app/download/
Apps are MIT: https://github.com/nooker-app/nook
Tell me what is broken, especially in the feeds.
submitted by /u/Selene_hyunI wanted to follow RSS feeds without opening another website every time.
So I added an RSS/Atom reader directly into my Chrome new-tab workspace.
The idea is that your new tab can become a small information dashboard instead of just a search box.
You can have:
RSS/Atom feeds
Bookmarks
Notes
Tasks
Pomodoro
Search
Workspaces
The extension is ARC Tab, and the core workspace is local-first with no account, backend, analytics or telemetry.
The RSS reader is currently one of my favourite parts because I can open a new tab and immediately see the feeds I actually care about.
Curious what RSS workflows other people use.

I've updated my feedland page with 13 aggregator and firehose feeds from Bear Blog, Pinboard, Scour, Hacker News and others.
A good way to use these is to put them all in one folder in your reader and filter for keywords based on your interests.

For anyone looking for a simple, native feed reader on iOS that respects open standards and data ownership, I made Leggo.
It's standard-friendly:
It’s completely free on the App Store without ads or tracking.
You can check out screenshots and details here: https://leggo-rss.fizban.net/
Suggestions and feature requests are very welcome!
submitted by /u/corradoignotiWanted to share this here since it's a fairly literal use of RSS: YouTube still exposes a per-channel RSS feed even though it's not advertised anywhere. My app (Focus Feed) uses those feeds to pull new uploads instead of going through YouTube's API or algorithm — so you just get a plain chronological list of what channels you follow have posted, no recommendations, no autoplay.
It also supports per-channel keyword filters on the RSS titles, and you can pull a whole playlist's feed in at once. No account or sign-in needed, it's just consuming public feeds.
Curious if anyone here has run into limitations with YouTube's RSS feeds (delay before new uploads show up, missing metadata, etc) — happy to compare notes.

submitted by /u/ObliviousLeafBratHi r/rss, a quick update on Newsairy, the iCloud-native RSS reader I've been building. It's been a few releases since I last posted here (1.11 in July), so a quick recap before the headline:
And now 1.15 adds an Article Info sheet, opened from any article's context menu: where it's from (the feed's name and which archive it lives in — local, iCloud, or one of the aggregators), its published/updated/read dates, its read and starred state (switchable right there), and when retention will remove it. Feed Info also picked up two more lines: the feed's format (RSS, Atom, JSON) and the date of its newest archived article, so a feed that's gone quiet gives itself away at a glance.
I built it mostly for smart feeds and folders, where an article shows up without the usual context of "which feed is this from again?" - now that's one tap away instead of a guess.
For anyone who hasn't come across it: Newsairy syncs over iCloud across iPhone, iPad and Mac, and Pro adds sync with TheOldReader, Miniflux, FreshRSS, Feedbin and Inoreader. One-time purchase, no subscription, no ads, no tracking.
I have a long todo list, but I'm always open to suggestions - if there's a feature or a use case you'd like to see, let me know.

submitted by /u/QebAppsI built Across News App 🌉
I used to use Pulse News, and I really loved its unique carousel-style layout. It was dense, quick to scan, and made it easy to keep up with the sources I already cared about.
When I couldn't find that experience anymore, I decided to build my own take on it.
Across is a simple, dense news reader that helps you stay in sync with the sources you care about — without endless scrolling.
Just launched on Android. Would love to hear what you think!

Please do support in any way you can, it is a hobby project but I have poured my heart and soul into this ❤️

submitted by /u/Beowolf_77Hi,
I’m looking for a good free RSS reader where I can collect updates from different websites and sources in one place.
A few questions:
Basically, I want the self-hosted tool to handle the scraping/feed generation, while Inoreader remains my actual RSS reader.
Ideally, I’d like something simple where I can follow a mix of news sites, industry websites, LinkedIn and other pages without checking everything manually .
Any recommendations?

submitted by /u/johnny_tekkenLet’s say I applied to YC. With a really BIG idea! Like everyone thinks that their idea is big enough to apply to YC. At least I assume it.
My idea is follow(object);
Okay, I really applied to YC with this idea and… of course I check my email everyday, idk why but I also followed their social media account’s YouTube, Instagram, TikTok. Like to be ready if something happens You know, to say “Yes, I already follow You”.
I clicked the links in their website footer, and followed in each platform separately. YC Instagram: follow. YC YouTube: follow. And…
So, now notifications and follow in many platforms completely broken. It’s more like “power-like”, “we see that you REALLY INTERESTED in this Object.”
I really followed YC in Instagram. Of course all notifications from social media app are switched off, and we know why. You think when I opened insta they showed me last YC post? No. Trending video OR/AND an ad.
So, what if I’ll create a backend that can read channels and deliver signals, not whole content, just “published”. So this backend will be able to read all channels and deliver everywhere.
Through simple API I’ll create my bot in Telegram, that will send me notification every time in my conditions (when, how, what etc), when YC do something towards me: publish new posts, send me an email, like my post, etc. And what if I want only email, but able to see new posts by demand. I can switch off TikTok and Instagram now, and then re-activate them. Follow(YC);
And remember these backend can work with every app. So what if I want to get this updates from YC in… let’s say WhatsApp, or WeChat instead of Telegram, or…? Whatever, right?
That’s how it became DirectFlow.
ObjectD.channel.output -> ObjectF.channel.input. Everyone can change their output AND input channels.
So I started the project with this goal, and call it DirectFlow. First real implementation is here https://directfollow.com
Recently add Slack as delivery. I mean, an input channel. It means technically You can get all your notifications from everywhere in Slack or whatever app you want.

submitted by /u/devopswannabeTL;DR: I built a self-hostable social RSS reader that federates with Mastodon. Live demo + code linked below
Today the POC of my favorite feed reader is finally ready, it has all the features I had in mind for it.
It started from a small idea. In my world, very few people around me use RSS, and I always wanted to know what they follow and what they find interesting, maybe I'd want to follow them too. For example, I knew two of my coworkers were daily RSS users like me, but there was no way for us to see each other's reading.
So I let myself dream a bit and, with the help of AI, put together a version of that dream. You can see the live instance here: https://rssfriends.com/
The code of this POC lives here: https://github.com/pesarkhobeee/FediverseRssFriends
In short: it's a social, RSS-friendly radar for the open web, self-hosted, with magic-link auth, and connected to the fediverse (ActivityPub).
In detail you can:
If you want, you can visit my public page and see if it's something you'd enjoy using too:
https://rssfriends.com/u/farid?cat=weblogs
submitted by /u/farid_berlinWe've all seen r/rss being flooded with ads, self-promotion, and completely off-topic posts. It is unclear when there was last any meaningful moderator activity. Posts about the lack of moderation:
Some of us have tried to help remedy this situation by reporting spam where we see it, by messaging the moderators to offer help, and by asking for the subreddit to be handed over via the r/redditrequest process. Unfortunately, nothing has helped, and r/rss continues to be unmoderated.
I hope that someone else's attempt is met with more success.
submitted by /u/latkdeHi fellow RSS Reader authors (doesn't everybody write one these days?),
I came across this article about CSS-related vulnerabilities in email readers:
https://portswigger.net/research/css-the-bomb-inside-your-inbox
Frankly, I found this quite shocking. As RSS readers render third-party HTML, these issues potentially affect RSS readers as well.
I am wondering which strategies you use for sanitizing and rendering third-party HTML? In particular, for HTML-based readers.
In my reader, I am currently using whitelist-based sanitation of the HTML on the server side (using sanitize-html npm). On the client, I am using safeSetHTML where supported as a second-layer defense, but slightly less strict to avoid issues with third-party embeddings (TikTok, X..). Without safeSetHTML, I am using DOMPurify.
Unfortunately, my UI does not allow me to use iframes for HTML, which would allow additional sandboxing. CSP is still on my TODO list.
How do you deal with untrusted HTML?
submitted by /u/Odd-Anteater875Hi everyone,
I am a big fan of e-ink style of kindle, so I built a news reader that "feels" like one.
The app called "think", available on both Android and iOS.
- No account required
- Respect your privacy, no tracking, even analytics!
- Just enjoy reading!

submitted by /u/i-am-kaiDo you still use RSS and feed reader apps in 2026 ?
If you do , can you actually reach the full range of sources out there? Filter them by keyword, or just describe what you're after in plain language and get the 20 sources that matter for your monitoring in ten seconds?
My context: I've had this idea that any curious person or content creator should be able to reach the best 400,000 RSS feeds in the world without effort , straight from their AI tool or their automation stack.
If that existed tomorrow, what would you plug it into? And what are you using instead right now?
