Tron: Legacy (Recording Sessions) by Daft Punk
So, I’m not exactly sure what this is, but what it appears to be is a fan-assembled album of the recording sessions for Tron: Legacy by Daft Punk & Joseph Trapanese. 67 tracks in this YouTube playlist and 61 tracks from the Internet Archive (not sure of the overlap here…) Some of it sounds just like the 31 tracks from the “Complete Edition” of the soundtrack, some of it is alternate studio takes, and some of it is probably just random bits and bobs from the movie that didn’t make it onto the soundtrack.
Anyway, if you love this album as much as I do, I’ll leave you to explore.

Weeknote 2026-32
Talking about a tough week padded between with a great run, and time relaxing at football/rugby.
My second ever week note, and holding onto that weekly cadence so far. Hold on for a week of mediocrity and misery, front-ended by a fantastic 10km run.
Work
Probably the least said about work this week the better. I was hoping to launch a transformation project next week which I have pushed back to mid September as a result of current workload and resource. It is a bit catch 22, as launching this piece of software will reduce my workload dramatically - but I need to be able to configure it properly and support the launch. Very disappointing all round, contributing to a very miserable week.
Projects
Amidst the mediocrity of work though, I have ploughed on with a number of my personal projects which I'll start talking about soon. I think that they are all heading past MVP now and towards 1.0.
I have also made a cute little expense and mileage tracker for work. Not sure if it will roll more widely at this point, but for the first time ever I'm essentially 3 weeks ahead with my August expenses rather than catching up in a hurry mid September. I might talk about this project too, but a big improvement on spreadsheet, even if it's deliverable is a zip file containing that same spreadsheet, with receipt images.

I started off the week really well, following up a strong run last Sunday with an even stronger fastest 10km of the last decade holding onto the long group at Trawden AC on the Barrowford Summer Route on Monday.
My training suffered after that as work life balance deteriorated heavily, and I've not ran since - though I have been in the gym and on the bike towards the end of the week.
Exploring
One of the other benefits of watching sport at the weekend is that I find it helps to put distance between myself and work and the week. It is pretty much impossible to work while inside a stadium too.
I spent Saturday afternoon at Turf Moor watching a clearly superior Burnley side scrape past Notts County in the League Cup on penalties following a 1-1 tie, inertness in front of goal clearly unresolved from last season.
I then finished off this afternoon watching Oldham do their best to throw away a three try advantage, before winning the game 31-30 with a last touch drop kick.
 People
I hate people. Other than that, not much to report this week - other than Vickie running up the Barrowford Road for the first time today - the return on my Nelson Skyline Route. While I'm very proud of her progress, I doubt she will make that mistake again any time soon.
Hopefully I'll be back next week in a more positive mood.

Working with Claude on the user interface of RSS.chat was a grind, but we learned a lot about working on these projects, me in the form of my human memory, and Claude who can read the code for a huge sprawling app like Frontier, and understand it, in a minute or two. We've done this project in three stages, not knowing at the first two that there would be another one. Now we're working on the editors. An odb table editor, outliner, menubar editor, script editor. All built on the same codebase. It's in an Electron app that works with lots of independent windows, which while it has its pros and cons, is the way Frontier did it for almost 40 years. I find all this very unsettling, but I realize that once we get back to adjusting the UI, I already know how to work with Claude on tuning things up so they feel just right. I'm a market of one, the only one who has to be happy here is me. This may be the hardest programming project I've ever had, for one simple reason, I'm not doing any programming. That and I'm having very strong deja vu on everything I do and think about. Also there will be a fourth stage and maybe more. It'll be about the affordances, the things that seem little, but make the product usable. The biggest is the debugger. It's patterned after the one in THINK C, which I found transformative so I stole from the best, as they say.

Mijn blog, interessante links, online aanwezigheid, CreativeNotes, comments, maar tegelijk de professionele kant van die online aanwezigheid. Hoe hou ik dat in evenwicht. Ik zou dat na 26 jaar bloggen toch wel moeten weten. Niets is minder waar. Het blijft zoeken. De huidige site op frankmeeuwsen.com is in elk geval niet voldoende. Dat is al een jaar een lelijke placeholder voor wat er zou moeten komen. Daar moet ik eens werk van maken. Maar er moet ook een manuscript af. Gelukkig heb ik nog een paar weken redelijk wat werkvrije tijd.

I'm trying to read more newspaper, magazine, journal articles etc
I've subscribed to a few newspapers and mags and the like, and idea is to read them on my tablet. Ideally I'd be getting paper copies but cost + not living in the US or UK makes it difficult.
I've gotten RSS feeds and a read-it-later app but it feels like I'm always running into issues and distractions, like getting logged out of the website, trying to load it from an RSS feed but...getting logged out again in the in-app browser, ads and the like distracting me and so forth.
What I want to do is to browse for articles on my laptop, find some good ones, view them in a reading view, and then put them on the cloud to read later on my tablet as an offline file.
Other than a lo fi option of saving as a PDF + putting on G Drive, or even more lo fi of printing them (which I'm honestly considering), does anyone have any sleeker options to do something like this? I use a Mac computer and an Android tablet. I also have a Kindle but I haven't found articles on Kindle satisfying particularly ones where it has images. Thanks!

Jax won't say anything - so taking a few minutes out to sing her praises.
Last week she was talking with someone who is on their way to ‘new friend’ status when the conversation inevitably arrived at the ‘so - what do you do’ question - and the conversation took off.
A young man (related to new friend) was listening in.
This text received the next day.
Praise doesn’t often come from teenagers, but (name redacted) was loving listening to our conversation and said “I never thought I’d meet someone like her, someone who is switched on but also doing something about it“ 😊
The most telling part of this is that a lot of people who should know better simply do not understand her work - just nod their heads and move on. Why?

- Doesn't apply to me / doesn't happen here. (Yes it does and yes it does.)
- Assumes wrongly that others are already fixing this.(No - they aren't.).

I've built a simple RSS reader that keeps you in control of what content you see.
After years tired of News apps, Social Media slop and poor content that only prioritizes engagement over quality, I built this app to help me stay up-to-date and still keep my sanity.
GreatRSS is 100% free, it's web-based and gives you multi-device sync. It looks good on both desktop and mobile. No ads. The idea is to keep it free forever and ask for donations later if I need help paying for servers, etc.
The app is very clean. You pick your sorces, turn them on/off, it syncs manually and it only requires an email and password to login. It's very minimalist.
It's also very opinionated. I want to keep it very simple and quiet. If you are a hardcore reader, that enjoys dozens of articles from many sources, you may not enjoy it. However, if you're looking to tone down the noise, read only what actually matters and some peace of mind, this app is for you.

I'm actively seeking feedback from RSS users. Let me know what you like/don't like, what features are missing, etc. The app is still in beta stage.
