Last week along with a lot of other stuff, we shipped a validator for lists and feeds that want to be compatible with RSS.chat. It works best for standards to stay strong and a validator helps that. So here are a few examples, validating one user's feed, validating the everyone feed for RSS.chat, which is interesting because this feed starts a lot of threads, so we navigate through that tree and check those feeds too. And validating the user list on RSS.chat, which is an OPML file. And a simple feed with a few interop isses.

Built a reader that writes me a briefing instead of showing me 500 unread
I've used RSS for fifteen years and what finally broke me wasn't the feeds, it was the unread counter. Five hundred items, all the same size, all shouting.
So I built the opposite: everything goes in, one written piece comes out. Feeds (paste any site URL and it finds the feed), newsletters — each topic inbox has a real email address you can subscribe with — scheduled Google searches, X profiles. Every morning an AI merges the lot into a single briefing: deduplicated, sponsor blocks stripped, with the link to every original under each story. When a feed only publishes a teaser, the full article gets fetched and read.
Two details this crowd usually asks about:
- When several of your sources cover the same fact, they're merged into one entry with a label saying how many told it. It's not an AI claiming something is important — it's your own sources agreeing, and you can see who.
- The digest is also a podcast on a private RSS feed, with show notes and source links, so it plays in any podcast app.

I made a change today for new users to essentially require setting the "about me" text for a Micro.blog profile. After you confirm signing up, you'll get this page with some random profiles. I hope that it'll help with discovery in the future and also weeding out non-humans more easily.

Reading reddit via rss (fiery feeds for ios) - popup banner
Been consuming reddit via rss for a while. After starting to get a bunch of 429 errors I dropped poling (by tt-rss) to about 4 hours.
I consume by a mix of tt-rss in browser, or fiery feeds, a tt-rss compatible rss reader.
I used to be logged in with fiery feeds to reddit, so I was able to reply comment, but recently found that I wasn't signed in and couldn't reply.
Now, after reading through the comments of one thread, I get this banner appear, and trying to see how to get rid of it. I have no problem being signed in, but dont want to push every article to their app as it means a lot of jumping back and forth.
I'm browsing, according to fiery feeds in it's own safari broser

Hey Dave! I was talking to a user, and he's having issues with feedland (probably feedland.com) not subscribing to his rssCloud via https when his cloud specified port 443. I know you fixed this on feedland.social back in May, but it doesn't look like it made it to GitHub, npm, or feedland.com. I suggested he just use my rssCloud server instead, but I'm wondering if you have plans to get this update pushed out? Maybe at the same time as the support for rssCloud in OPML files?

AI news without using X
I've mentioned a few times how the AI community is overwhelmingly still using X. This is annoying because I'm fascinated with AI, and I like to know throughout the week what big changes are happening in the industry.
I stopped posting to Twitter over a decade ago. And more recently with Elon Musk, the X API has become more unpredictable and developer-hostile. (I still think Micro.blog should probably integrate with it anyway, so that users can prioritize their own blogs and still reach social followers with POSSE, but it's a question I've tabled for now.)
I had even gotten into the habit of routinely checking X posts from folks in the AI industry. I really dislike this. There has to be a better way to keep up with news. Blogs like TechCrunch help, but only if an X post becomes important enough to bubble up to a broader audience.
Over the last few weeks, I've been testing a new solution using ChatGPT scheduled tasks. I have a task that can run at regular intervals, finding any relevant posts and summarizing them for me. The prompt looks like this:
Find the latest public posts/tweets from notable OpenAI and Anthropic employees, summarize the most important updates, and include links to the original posts. Prioritize posts from the last 8 hours and focus on AI product, research, developer, policy, and company-relevant updates.
It's working well. Here's a screenshot from ChatGPT from over the weekend:
I don't actually know how this works behind the scenes. I assume it's downloading various profile pages while navigating around the dickovers that increasingly get in the way of signed-out reading on platforms like X and Reddit. But however it's doing it, it works. It finds both X posts and company blog posts from OpenAI and Anthropic.
The larger point isn't really about X. This workflow is just a specific example of what will become more common in the future, as AI assistants proactively help us save time, just as RSS feed readers help us avoid reloading a website home page over and over.
Social media powered by ads and algorithms is too addictive. The best way to avoid it is to not check mainstream social media at all, otherwise we're inevitably going to get sucked into the infinite timeline. I think RSS feed readers and AI assistants will have an important role to play in helping us stay informed even as we're mostly unplugged from the worst aspects of it all.

Using RSS as the handoff between local podcast processing and any compatible player
I built Feedcast around a simple idea: the app that prepares a podcast episode does not need to be the app that plays it. RSS can be the interface between the two.
Feedcast imports an existing feed or local media on the Mac, transcribes the episode, creates chapters, applies enabled sponsor-section cuts, and lets the user refine episode metadata. It then publishes the processed result as a personal RSS feed that can be added to Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Pocket Casts, Castro, and other compatible players.
Version 3.2 made the feed XML available online by default while the actual audio remains served by the Mac. That separation makes feed discovery and subscription easier without moving the media-processing workflow away from the computer.
The most interesting lesson for me was that GUID stability, enclosure URLs, chapters, and metadata compatibility are product features. If any of those details are wrong, the handoff feels broken even when the audio processing itself worked.
I built Feedcast and would be interested in how other RSS developers handle generated feeds whose media remains locally served.

Like many of you here in r/rss, I love the decentralization of RSS, but I always felt there was a missing link: an easy way to *create* and share our own curated feeds directly from our mobile devices without complex setups or expensive subscription fees.
