  • “Lasting innovation is built on connections.”

    So true … across;

    industries ➕ sectors ➕ geographies ➕ disciplines

and time … continuously ➕ continually ... so that we keep in mind that we are in a marathon - not a sprint.

CONTINUAL creates the nodes of our community

CONTINUOUS forms the fabric that will sustain our community

    TOGETHER ... not ‘and’ … ‘➕’

  • 🖋️ What Are These 'Systems of Engagement' Of Which You Speak?

For sixty years we have been building systems to manage what we know.

History - specific rules, behind firewalls, command and control thinking, dashboards, sales playbooks ... and do not get me started on the ‘sales methodology’ industry.

The world changed. Slowly. Then all at once.

Now we (they?) all talk about transparency, trust, openness, sharing, engagement …

All talk. No trousers - because even with all the talk there is little to no help with any systems needed to navigate this new landscape.

"But we do," I hear you say: support systems, ticketing, wikis, community spaces, websites, CRM, newsletters ....

"No we don't." you might hear me reply. If you are still reading. They are still all about history.

Take the CRM. Please. It's not a Customer Relationship Management system. It's a Customer Records Management system.

We say our customers are our most important relationships. And then we put targets on their backs (and fronts).

Language Leaks has been tenet of mine for over a decade ( 🖇️ me in pre covid days on the topic ) - the sales and marketing world is full of these problems.

    • Dominate the market.-Take the hill.- Maximise share of wallet- Push leads through the funnel. ... and oh so many more that get used n the 'marketing war rooms'.

AND - the sales funnel is not the buyer's journey. We built it for us, not for them. And still act surprised when it doesn't work. We the people dont even know we are on your journey.

Even the 4Ps - and yes they are still referenced ... Price, Place, Product, Promotion - are a framework built for a world that no longer exists. Designed to broadcast at people. In an age when people talk back and we don't listen -much less respond.

We have sixty years of infrastructure for a conversation that only went one way. It's hard to change. But change we must - in talk and action. Important distinction - because I hear the words from leadership - i don't see the change in their methods.

Don't believe me? Look at your last 'customer communication'. Be honest as you ask your self

    • was it too long?

    • was it interesting - not to you - to the recipient?

    • was it sent as part of a mass 'blast'?

    • how easy is it for the recipient to get off that list - or to tune what kind of emails they might actually want?

    Whats To Be Done?

We don't just replace the 4Ps with four new words and call it done. We replace the thinking behind them. In case you are wondering ...

    • Essence. Not Product. Who you are and why you matter. Before you say a word about what you sell.

    • Exchange. Not Price. The mutual value in every interaction. Not just money, but time, trust, and attention. Given and received.

    • Ease. Not Place. How frictionless it is to find you, choose you, stay with you. Friction is where customers quietly disappear.

    • Experience. Not Promotion. Every touchpoint, every interaction, every moment that either builds the relationship or erodes it.

The 4Es are not new systems. You don't need to rip anything out.

You need to look at what you already have - your CRM, your website, your support desk, your sales process, ask a different question and listen to the different answers.

Not "what does this system record?" but "what does this system enable?"

The infrastructure is not the problem. The thinking is. Change the thinking and the systems you have start working differently.

That's the shift. Sixty years of recording. Now we learn to engage.

Well, not to get ahead of ourselves - 🔗📼 this is what they thought at the end of it all.

Turns out they were waiting to hear 'this guy' perform.

He did. His name is Sheku Kanneh-Mason.

🔗 You can read all about him here.

27 years old Nottingham lad with roots back to Bahrain - and pretty much 'the dude' when you are talking Classical Cello - watch out 'Yo Yo'. Seriously - BBC Young Musician at 17 and played at Harry and Meghan's wedding at 19.

Last night? Great stuff - along with the 🔗Auckland Philharmmonia conducted by 🔗 Elena Schwarz. Interested to learn that her own first instrument was the cello - so I suspect we got something even more special.

🔗 Tesla wants to build a $10B solar factory in Texas

The Tesla playbook is the Amazon playbook … pitch as many states as you can against each other … the ongoing nail in the coffin of the UNITED States.

Tesla has applied for tax incentives to partially offset the cost, saying that it is exploring other sites “across multiple U.S. states.” The factory would create about 9,700 full-time jobs, Tesla said.

Without incentives, Tesla’s accountants estimated that the property tax liability for the project would be about $1.1 billion over 37 years.

That’s roughly $30 million per year folks … heaven knows that Tesla and the Muskrat need all the help they can get … I mean just to employ 9,700 people at minimum wage is going to cost them an order of magnitude more than that .. and its not as if they have access to an army of robots capable of doing that work.

My disdain for astrology is so utter, and my esteem for Godier's previous work so high, that it simply never occurred to me that he might have actually made and submitted to the App Store an astrology app, let alone that he'd then feign surprise and frustration that an astrology app was rejected for being an astrology app. I showed him a draft of my post before publication, to make sure I had the story straight, and he offered not a word of caution.

  • 🔗 'Steal Underpants by Blowing a Fortune on AI Tokens' Is, in Fact, Not a Good Business Plan

My impression of consulting giants like Accenture (McKinsey, Bain, Deloitte, KPMG...) has always been that they are very good at looking smart but in fact very bad at actually being smart. The idea that they’re spending serious money on AI tokens to turn PDFs and PowerPoint decks into Markdown only makes me think I’ve overestimated the median intelligence of the people who work there.

Last week she was talking with someone who is on their way to ‘new friend’ status when the conversation inevitably arrived at the ‘so - what do you do’ question - and the conversation took off.

A young man (related to new friend) was listening in.

This text received the next day.

Praise doesn’t often come from teenagers, but (name redacted) was loving listening to our conversation and said “I never thought I’d meet someone like her, someone who is switched on but also doing something about it“ 😊

The most telling part of this is that a lot of people who should know better simply do not understand her work - just nod their heads and move on. Why?

    • Too hard. (No - it isn't.)
    • Doesn't apply to me / doesn't happen here. (Yes it does and yes it does.)
    • Assumes wrongly that others are already fixing this.(No - they aren't.).
