  Newsairy: a highly customisable, iCloud-native RSS reader for iPhone, iPad and Mac

  Hi r/rss, a quick update on Newsairy, the iCloud-native RSS reader I've been building. It's been about a month since my last post here (1.19 back in September), so a quick recap before the headline:

  • 1.20 — on-device AI summaries, run entirely offline (nothing leaves your phone)
  • 1.21 — Find in Article, quicker per-feed Open With, more reliable OPML import
  • 1.21.1 — OPML export straight from a connected sync service

  1.21.2 brings List Endings — this one came from a suggestion on Reddit, actually: if you use Mark as Read on Scroll, a button now clears the last few articles stuck at the bottom of the list, and another jumps straight to the next feed with unread items. The app is also better optimized for iPhone Duo now, both closed and open — tested on the Simulator only so far, since I don't have the real device yet either.

  A few more highlights:

  • Get a short AI summary of any article, generated entirely on your device (iOS 26+) — nothing leaves your phone
  • Themes including Sepia
  • A customisable article list (layout, density, thumbnail size, favicon, unread dot, 0–6 preview lines); tune the reading view's font and text size
  • Smart Feeds for the latest news, and Custom Smart Feeds: keyword-based feeds that gather matching articles from every source, with keywords to include and keywords to mute
  • Read History, sorted by when you read each article
  • Three independent retention rules for how long articles stick around
  • Offline preview, full text set per feed (as published, extracted automatically, or downloaded ahead of time)
  • OPML import/export, including exporting straight from a connected sync service
