I curated feeds and turned them into a Radio—and animated it in realtime
Hi everyone—I built Gravitas Crunch, and thought its Robot Radio feature might interest this community.
It turns RSS feeds into a continuous lineup of short narrated reports, with 2D presenters animated in real time. You can browse curated stations or build one from your own feeds. There is a fully functional reader. The AI narration and animation run on-device. App Store
The idea is to make keeping up with your chosen sources feel more like turning on the radio. I’d appreciate honest feedback from fellow RSS users.

InfoBubble RSS Catalog
https://infobubble.github.io/infobubble-support/catalog.html
It was (and still is) a basic YAML file, but I have added an interface and generated summaries of websites. I continue to update it periodically. Summaries can help a bit as a search tool if you don't know what website you want.
I also added a preview, but because it's a free Cloudflare account, I think it will stop working very fast due to limits.
You can peek at them all or one by one, and export them to an OPML or CSV table.
P.S: vibecoders, use that database to test your apps against real feeds. You will be really surprised.

How Hunting Owls Use Sound to “See” Under the Snow
The great grey owl basically has a sound cone for a face, which helps it hunt down voles burrowing through snow in the winter.
The owl’s large facial ruff, formed of dense feathers, helps amplify sound and funnel it towards his ears. Through half a meter of snow, the sound of scampering feet is inaudible to us. But not to him. With the help of a special acoustic camera equipped with 60 highly sensitive microphones, we can see what the owl is hearing.
The footage in this video is amazing — and so is the owl’s sense of hearing. A YouTube commenter says “Cat software in Bird hardware. Bad news for the Rodents.” You can watch a short video on the science behind owl hunting techniques and watch the whole episode this is from about how animals use sound (but only in Canada, it seems…VPN works fine tho).
The only problem with this video is that now I want two hours of just closeup footage of the owl’s face and it flying directly towards the camera. Those eyes! And its mid-flight loaf-of-white-bread-shaped body! I would also like the owl to be my friend.
BTW, this clip is from a show called The Nature of Things, which is a CBC nature series that’s been going since 1960. A good thing to have on your radar if you’re looking for well-produced science & nature programs.

I missed Palabre so much I built my own RSS reader. Looking for honest feedback
Hey everyone!
Palabre was my favourite reader for years, and when it died I never found anything that felt the same on Android. So I decided to build my own. It’s called Flash, and it’s finally out on the Play Store! =)
I know you see a lot of new readers here, so I’ll keep it quick. Here’s what I tried to do differently:
- It’s made for people who’ve never used RSS. You pick a few topics and it adds good feeds for you. My non-techy friends got it in seconds
- When you’ve read everything, it just says “That’s everything for now. See you later.” No endless scroll, no algorithm
- Star your favourite sources so they always show first
- Keyword alerts (get pinged when something you care about shows up) and keyword blocking (never see that topic again)
- AI summaries that run on your phone, nothing gets sent anywhere
- No account, everything stays on your phone, and OPML import/export for those of you moving over
It’s free with a few small ads, or one payment to remove them for good. No subscription, ever.
It’s just me working on this, so any feedback means a lot. What’s missing? What bugs you? What would make you switch? Be honest, I can take it 😄
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.getflash.app
Thanks for reading!

Where You Should Live: Five Factors to Keep in Mind
I ran across this post on Instagram by Bobby in Space (who posts about design and the psychology of place) and wanted to pull it onto the actual internet. Here are some snippets of his “5 hills I will die on as someone who studies the psychology of place”. I don’t think these are universal (e.g. people who live in rural areas likely prioritize other needs) or even necessarily the most important considerations (climate, sunlight, crime, schools), but they resonated with me.
1. Your 10-minute radius matters more than almost anything else about where you live: Think about what you can get to in ten minutes without making it a whole thing. I can get coffee, get groceries, go to a park, and go to a friend’s place.
This is the biggest thing that was missing for me living in rural VT for the past 10 years. My 10-minute radius required a car to access and even then was not teeming with options. My 10-minute radius here in Tokyo is, obviously, bonkers. It makes me so happy. A photo I took inside my 10-minute area a couple of weeks ago:

2. More space can give you a smaller life: This one I’ll actually argue about. Idk why we’re obsessed with getting more sq footage, but sometimes the bigger house means you spend way more time inside it. House, car, work, car, house. Meanwhile, someone in a tiny apartment might walk downstairs, grab coffee, run into someone they know, walk to dinner, stop at the park. Technically they have less space. Butttttt their actual life might be way bigger.
One of the things living in NYC taught me was how to treat the city as an extension of your home. I’m not sure people who live in rural and suburban areas think that way about the relationship between their homes and locations.
3. The best neighborhood amenity might literally just be other people outside. […] You don’t even need to talk to any of them. Just seeing other people out living their lives makes you feel like you’re part of something.
Yep. I have been so missing this in my life. My first few days here in Tokyo, I was craving being in huge crowds of humanity so much that I spent a lot of time in ultra-busy areas like Shinjuku and Shibuya.
4. Moving somewhere new will change you, just probably not in the way you think: trust me, I still tend to do this. I think that a new city can solve all my problems. But it will not. You’re still going to be you.
Haha, yeeeeep. Even a month into my travels, I have been disappointed to learn that my bad habits are still with me. Would really like to speak to the manager about that one…
5. Where your friends live should influence where you live way more than we admit: I don’t even feel the need to explain this one. Relationships are the most important thing you’ll do in your life. Go live near people that light you up
Even though it’s halfway across the world from where I’ve been living for the past 50+ years, I’ve seen more friends here in Japan in the past month than in the past 3 months in VT. It’s not going to be like that everywhere I go and I’m not near the most important folks in my life here, but it’s nice to have it while I’m here.

ChatGPT Ads Target Your Phone Number, Email
OpenAI's ads targeting is pretty creepy, and new research confirms spyware companies are delivering potent malware through advertising networks. -
Google just warned me about a stories.scripting.com blog post from 2007. Perfectly safe archive. Want to know how we started doing code distribution via RSS? Google thinks it's a dangerous site. I'm getting so angry at their condescension. Not a good look for a tech giant trying to convince people that their AI model is better than the others. They don't care about the truth or being honest, or protecting unique resources, or the history of the medium they helped build. Google, some day someone will want to know what you destroyed. I'm going to make sure that part is easy to find. (BTW, the irony of Google's blockage, the page it warns you about is a freaking 404. That's the real enemy of historic sites. Linkrot. Wouldn't be cool if instead of tearing down the web they helped keep it running? The people running these companies are children. They positioning themselves with hate, what do you think comes right back to them.)

Starlink’s Entry Into Wireless Is Being Wildly Overhyped
One of the ways Musk fraudulently goosed SpaceX stock value during the IPO was by pretending that the company would very quickly (in just a year or two) grow from just 12 million global Starlink subscribers (just 4 million in the States) to something more akin to 300-500 million. The way Starlink claims they’ll do […] -
I built an RSS reader for iPhone, iPad and Mac that ranks your feeds by how many sources covered each story. 50 codes for a free year of Plus
Hi r/rss, I'm a solo dev and Ferry is my first app. It's an RSS reader for iPhone, iPad and Mac, and I wanted to share it here because the interesting part is what it does with the feeds you already follow.
What's different: most readers sort by newest. Ferry also counts how many outlets across the web are covering each story and can rank by that, so a story ten of your sources ran sits above whatever just came in. Under each headline it shows how many feeds carried it, and you can tap to read every version side by side.
The RSS side of it:
- OPML import and export, so you can bring your feeds from Feedly, Inoreader or anywhere else
- Syncs with FreshRSS. Inoreader, BazQux and The Old Reader support is coming soon.
- Folders, smart folders, offline reading, Spotlight search, widgets
- No account and no identifiers. The server never learns which feeds you follow or what you read.
- On iPhones with Apple Intelligence it can summarise where outlets agree and where one breaks from the rest. That runs on the device.
The free version is fully usable. Plus adds the Trending sort for your own feeds, the full coverage view and all Discover topics. It's a monthly or yearly subscription, with a one-time Lifetime option.
I have 50 codes for a free year of Plus. DM me and I'll send you one, first come first served. It's a normal App Store subscription, so it renews after the year unless you cancel; you can turn off auto-renew right after redeeming and still keep the full year.
Honest feedback, good or bad, is what I'm after. What would make you switch from your current reader?

This Is What Happens When Women Read: Julianna Glasse on Leaving Conservative Christianity (Part 2)
Julianna Glasse is back for Part 2, and this one is all about what comes after the leaving and what you build when you refuse to swap one savior for another. We hear about the three years Julianna spent being, in her words, “spiritually promiscuous:” traveling the world, visiting temples and mosques, dating freely and non-monogamously, deliberately not writing her book until she could show women how to be the hero of their own story rather than just trade one belief system for another. The intentionality of that choice is its own kind of radical act.
We get into her Oxford dissertation's central revelation: that shame, fear, isolation, and psychological manipulation are the universal tools that oppressive religious systems use on women across cultures—and that once you name the internal mechanics rather than the external differences, a girl from Iowa and a girl from Saudi Arabia suddenly look at each other and say "me too." That insight became the curriculum at her organization, This Is What Happens When Women Read, which has already reached over four million women in 67 countries in just a year and a half, including a woman in Botswana who hosted 41 women for dinner in honor of Julianna's birthday.
Julianna's advice to anyone secretly listening from a bathroom with headphones is some of the most quietly powerful we've heard: you have intrinsic worth. There is no gatekeeper between you and love or God or yourself. Be very private with your becoming. Ask of everything put before you—does this feel like love or does this feel like fear? We never got to the boat chapter in This Is What Happens When Women Read; you'll have to read the book for that one. Trust us—you'll want to.
Be sure to follow Julianna on Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
Trigger warning: This episode contains frank discussion of religious coercion, shame-based control, isolation, and psychological manipulation within religious systems.

[RELEASE][APP] Feedrion – RSS reader that also follows newsletters, TV shows, weather & stocks, and hides spoilers (Android, Wear OS, web)
Hi r/rss 👋
I'm an independent developer and I've just launched Feedrion, an RSS reader that lets you follow everything that matters in one place: websites and feeds, newsletters, TV shows, the weather in your cities, currencies and stocks, while hiding anything that could spoil things for you.
It runs on the web, Android and Wear OS, with one account synced everywhere.
👉 Easiest way to try it: full demo, no sign-up. A fictional account runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and everything disappears when you close the tab.
Why yet another reader?
I used Netvibes, then Feedly after Netvibes shut down, without ever really enjoying its Android app. Above all, I was tired of having the end of a show or a match result spoiled just by opening my feeds. So I built the reader I wished I had.
📰 Sources
- RSS/Atom feeds, sites without a feed, YouTube channels, Reddit, Google News
- Newsletters: a dedicated e-mail address, and every issue arrives as an article in its own feed
- OPML import/export to leave Feedly, Inoreader & co in two minutes
- Folders, search, saved for later, customisable swipe actions
- Keyword alerts, by notification or e-mail
🛡️ Spoiler protection
Add your keywords: headlines and previews that might spoil things are blurred until you decide to reveal them. Each term can be paused with a switch without deleting it.
🧩 Extensions
- TV shows (TheTVDB): To watch / Upcoming / My shows, two-way Trakt sync, TV Time import, unwatched episode titles hidden
- Weather (MET Norway): hourly and multi-day
- Currencies & stocks: ~200 currencies with charts; stocks through your own free key (Twelve Data, Alpha Vantage, EODHD), kept on your device
🤖 AI summaries & translation, with your own key
Paste your key (Claude, OpenAI, Groq, OpenRouter, Mistral or Cerebras). Calls go straight from your device: your key, prompts and results never touch Feedrion's servers. Works on every plan, free included. There is also an optional paid AI option if you'd rather not set anything up.
🎧 Reading
Text-to-speech, full offline reading with re-sync, light/dark themes, 3 fonts, 20 languages.
⌚ Wear OS
A real standalone watch app: browse folders and feeds, read with the crown, spoiler protection, tiles (latest articles, top story, alerts, episodes to watch) and complications.
📥 Get it
Free to use (the free plan shows ads; Premium removes them). No iOS version yet.
- 🎮 Demo, no account: https://feedrion.com/demo
- 🌐 Web app: https://feedrion.com/?ref=reddit-rss
- 🤖 Android & Wear OS: https://feedrion.com/play?ref=reddit-rss
💬 Feedback welcome
I develop Feedrion on my own, so every bit of feedback counts: a bug, a missing feature, what would make you switch readers. Reply here or use "Send feedback" in the app.

Reinvent Yourself At Any Age: Ina Garten Shares the Secret to Transforming Your Life
If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s too late to change direction, start over, trust yourself, or create a life that feels more like you, you need to hear this conversation.
Today, Mel is joined by the one and only Ina Garten.
You know her as the Barefoot Contessa: beloved cookbook author, television host, entrepreneur, and one of the most trusted voices in food and entertaining.
But the story of how Ina created this life is the part you need to hear.
Because Ina did not start out with some master plan to build an iconic career.
She changed direction.
She took risks.
She trusted her instincts.
And she built an extraordinary life by paying attention to what she loved, having the courage to walk away from what wasn’t working, and refusing to follow somebody else’s definition of success.
This conversation is about so much more than food.
It’s about reinvention.
It’s about trusting yourself before you have proof that things will work out.
It’s about knowing when a chapter of your life is over.
And it’s about creating a life that feels good to live, not just one that looks impressive from the outside.
Ina also shares what she has learned about confidence, marriage, friendship, ambition, failure, and why some of the best decisions of your life may make absolutely no sense to anyone else.
You’ll learn:
-How to know when it’s time to make a change in your life
-Why you don’t need to have your entire future figured out
-How Ina learned to trust her own taste and instincts
-What decades of marriage have taught her about lasting love
-Why taking a risk can completely change the direction of your life
-How to stop chasing somebody else’s version of success
-The importance of doing more of what comes naturally to you
This is a conversation about having the courage to make your life your own.
And whether you’re 25, 45, 65, or somewhere in between, Ina’s story is the reminder you may need right now:
You are allowed to change your mind.
You are allowed to want something different.
And you are never too far into your life to create a new chapter.

Reading more details in the story of an OpenAI engineer getting arrested after bugging a conference room:
Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, a Saudi national, was arrested Friday and charged with using or attempting to use a device to intercept oral communications. He made his initial appearance in federal court Tuesday and remains in custody.
He seems to have had a fairly normal career, so what caused this flip to espionage? Strange. Not the obvious "he was a Chinese spy" that people might guess.

The Muffled Thud of Fire in the Hole
From a 2014 article on The Dark Power of Fraternities by Caitlin Flanagan, this is one hell of an opening paragraph:
One warm spring night in 2011, a young man named Travis Hughes stood on the back deck of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house at Marshall University, in West Virginia, and was struck by what seemed to him — under the influence of powerful inebriants, not least among them the clear ether of youth itself — to be an excellent idea: he would shove a bottle rocket up his ass and blast it into the sweet night air. And perhaps it was an excellent idea. What was not an excellent idea, however, was to misjudge the relative tightness of a 20-year-old sphincter and the propulsive reliability of a 20-cent bottle rocket. What followed ignition was not the bright report of a successful blastoff, but the muffled thud of fire in the hole.

Sometimes a business has to make difficult decisions to stay profitable. But I can't accept that major layoffs are needed at companies that make literal billions of dollars in revenue. Often these companies are still hiring even as layoffs are announced. 📺

It’s time to de-privatize the US government. “The problem is not just that privatization is often inefficient because it adds a nontransparent layer of profiteering on top of government functions. The problem is that government loses basic capacity.”

ICE’s Lies About A Man Officer Ran Over Undone By Footage Captured By Nearby CCTV Camera
Here’s something ICE pretends has happened: ICE alleged in a statement that “Parra-Hernandez ran in front of an ICE vehicle and was struck.” ABC13 reached out to an ICE spokesperson, who said agents were attempting to arrest Jose Mendoza-Cervantes, who was their intended target. ICE alleges Mendoza-Cervantes entered the United States illegally from Mexico five […] -

🔗 Don’t Trust People Who Talk Like This | Ted Gioia
"Did Picasso win in every vertical?
Did Shakespeare brag about his 'content engine'?
Did Beethoven ever achieve a 'profitable linear portfolio'?"(Side note - he's talking about David Ellison - but it really could be most people on the 'business side of entertainment' ... now there's an oxymoron I didn't plan to write today.

Talent becomes media | Seth's Blog
This is going to amplify a different sort of creative agency as well as give recognizable talent more leverage. A good ad in the TV days was annoying but led to action. A good ad today creates enrollment and buzz. Attention is insufficient ...

I read this yesterday:
🔗 Daring Fireball: X Once Again Marks the Spot and thought about it and moved on. (Noting that others have made similar noises.)
Unlike Tim, I didn’t waste an hour on X …
🔗 I Wasted an Hour on X: Tim Bray
Where I stand · I’m still a happy Fediversian, here’s why. Yeah, there aren’t as many people and it’s kinda geeky and leftist and queer; also unattractive to billionaires and CEOs. I can see why that’s less appealing for some folk out there and, well, OK. But I’m having fun on Fedi. And it’ll be a loooong time before I waste another hour on X.
Read the whole thing. I stand with Tim - and his list of people who he now has less respect for is worth a little peak.

🔗 Satya Nadella and Marc Benioff, Toadies – Pixel Envy
There is no legal or moral requirement to replace the vocabulary of “artificial intelligence” unless one is trying to appease a dumb and unpopular administration. Truly spineless stuff from Nadella and Benioff alike.
The words speak for themselves.

Occam's News reports that Trump et al are selling out the US. Putin can get the US to do what he wants by giving Trump money. Total win-win. And the US is flushed down the toilet. That's all that's going on there. All of the journalistic feigned bafflement is make-believe. It's totally obvious what's going on. And don't forget Musk has the world encircled with satellites. If he doesn't want you communicating, you don't communicate. In other words the selling-out has been going on for some time.

RSS24 update: Daily Brief for a quick news catch-up
Hey everyone! Since [my last update], I’ve added Daily Brief to RSS24 in v2.1.0.
It’s a short summary of the top news from the last 24 hours, displayed at the top of your feed and refreshed every 3 hours.
The idea is to give you a quick overview when you don’t have time to scroll through individual stories.
A few things to know:
- It’s AI-written, using RSS24’s built-in news sources.
- Everyone gets the same brief. It isn’t based on your personal feeds, and no personal information is sent to generate it.
- You can turn it off in Settings → Reading Experience → Daily Brief if you prefer to go straight to your articles.
I’d love to hear whether this fits into your reading routine and what would make it more useful.
