Loomer, a longtime Trump ally known for her sharp online commentary, traveled to Kyiv this week and sat down with Zelenskyy at Mariinsky Palace. The interview, conducted for her Rumble show Loomer Unleashed, covers the state of U.S.-Ukraine relations, peace prospects, and the evolution of personal dynamics between the two leaders. Trump shared a clip in which Zelenskyy described a brief private conversation with Trump at the Vatican in April 2025 as a âhistoric momentâ that improved their relationship after a contentious Oval Office meeting earlier in Trumpâs term.
In the Oval Office on 24 July, a reporter asked Trump about his decision to repost the interview and about reports of growing MAGA support for Ukraine. Trump replied, âI think they support what I support,â underscoring his influence over his baseâs foreign policy views.
The development is notable because Loomer had previously been one of the more vocal skeptics of U.S. military aid to Ukraine. For years she minimized aspects of Russiaâs invasion, echoed claims about Ukrainian extremism, and questioned the value of continued American involvement. During her recent trip she experienced an air raid in Kyiv, toured damaged sites, and publicly reversed course.

âJust experienced my first air raid in Ukraine. Sirens blaring. This is everyday for every Ukrainian,â she wrote. âI often said I donât care. Looking back, that wasnât very nice of me to say. We need to have moral clarity.â She later acknowledged having been influenced by what she called Russian propaganda online.
Zelenskyyâs office welcomed the attention, thanking Trump for U.S. support â including Patriot missile systems â and noting that Loomerâs team had heard recent Russian attacks. In the interview, Zelenskyy said he remains open to a peace deal, stating he is prepared to meet Trump at the Oval Office or Mar-a-Lago and that a ceasefire could be preferable to prolonged fighting if it saves lives. He described Trump as a âgood, strong leader,â while naming Abraham Lincoln as the best U.S. president when asked.

Rights group condemns appointment of genocide denier as Montenegrin minister
The Montenegrin human rights organisation Human Rights Action (HRA) has strongly condemned the appointment of Jovan VuÄuroviÄ as minister without portfolio in the third reconstruction of Montenegroâs 44th government.
In a public statement, HRA described VuÄuroviÄ as a person known for denying the Srebrenica genocide and for holding a series of other positions incompatible with a government post in a civic and European-oriented Montenegro.
According to the organisation, VuÄuroviÄ has publicly denied the genocide in Srebrenica, glorified Chetnik ideology, belittled LGBTIQ+ people and disregarded their rights, taken part in the celebration of the unconstitutional Day of Republika Srpska, and referred to Kosovo as a âfake state.â HRA stressed that someone with such publicly expressed views cannot be considered fit to serve as a minister in a government that is obliged to protect human rights, respect international law and foster good-neighbourly relations.
(The Chetniks were a Serbian nationalist and royalist guerrilla movement during World War II, known for collaboration with Axis forces and for committing war crimes against non-Serb populations in the former Yugoslavia.)
The organisation highlighted a particular paradox: VuÄuroviÄâs appointment was supported by the very minority parties that in 2021 voted to dismiss then Justice Minister Vladimir LeposaviÄ for relativising the Srebrenica genocide. Representatives of the Bosniak Party and the Albanian Forum voted in favour of VuÄuroviÄâs appointment, with the exception of Bosniak Party MP Kenana StrujiÄ HarbiÄ, independent MP Maja VuÄeliÄ and Albanian Alliance MP Ilir Äapuni.
HRA reminded that members of the government represent the state of Montenegro, not only the parties that nominate them, and that the selection of a person with such views seriously damages the countryâs credibility.
The organisation also noted that the European Union expects Montenegro to respect human rights, accept judicially established facts about war crimes, and pursue a sincere confrontation with the past.
âThe European body of civilisational values based on human rights is not a menu from which one can pick and choose according to preference â these values can only be respected as a whole,â HRA concluded.
As the current frontrunner in the EU accession process, Montenegro can ill afford scandals of this kind that risk undermining its European credentials. Pro-Serbian political forces in Montenegro are widely seen as seeking to derail the countryâs path toward EU membership.

Tens of thousands flee fires in France, blazes merge outside Madrid
Tens of thousands of people fled wildfires in southwest France by car and boat on Friday, and Spain declared a national emergency as huge blazes merged âoutside Madrid and searing heat left tinder-dry conditions across the region.
French authorities ordered the total evacuation of the Cap Ferret peninsula, a tourism hotspot on its Atlantic Coast. A third fire was âon the verge of joining two fires that had merged outside Madrid, government officials said.
Both countries, which have suffered a succession of heatwaves and fires in recent months and years that scientists say have been exacerbated by climate change, sought help from the European Union as the blazes strained emergency services.
French President Emmanuel Macron asked the army to support firefighting efforts, a source close to the president said.
Spainâs national emergency â the first it had ever declared over a wildfire â opened up federal funding to tackle the âcrisis.
âThis is the worst wildfire in our regionâs history,â Madridâs regional leader Isabel Diaz Ayuso said after telling reporters the fires had merged. âItâs the perfect storm of very high temperatures and ceaseless winds âthat arenât letting up.â
The clouds became âdarker and darkerâ
In southwest France, authorities sent boats to help the evacuation, and about 110,000 people, many of them tourists, were told â to leave as two major fires threatened homes and campsites, officials said.
âThis is a convective fire: It is self-sustaining, changes direction, and is moving mainly eastward, toward the Bordeaux metropolitan area,â Interior Minister Laurent Nunez told broadcaster âTF1.
Yoan Urien, who fled late on Thursday after police ordered his neighbourhood in the town of Biscarrosse to evacuate, said it was possible to see the fires from his home.
âWe could see the clouds becoming darker and darker,â âthe 26-year-old told Reuters.
Marie Duelz, a 51-year-old Belgian tourist vacationing at Cap Ferret, said she saw âa cloud of ash that was blocking the sun, basically.â
The other major fire, which began in the nearby village of Saumos, north of Cap Ferret, is threatening to cut off the only road out of the peninsula and is the largest so far this season in France, Nunez told local television.
It has torn through more than 14,000 hectares of forest and destroyed more than 100 homes and one campsite, officials âsaid.
âIt breaks my heart. Because itâs such a pleasant place to live, seeing it go up in smoke is truly sad,â said family caregiver Corinne Paillaube.
âItâs totally apocalyptic,â said Ambre Dubos, from the nearby Landes region.
âThere was a ball of fireâ
In Spain, more than 19,000 people were ordered to evacuate from towns in the mountains west of Madrid, as more than 2,000 personnel and 10 aircraft struggled in vain to prevent the fires converging, Interior Minister Fernando âGrande-Marlaska said.
âI had â to run from my house. There was a ball of fire. If Iâd taken five more minutes, it would have wiped us out,â evacuee Enrique Martin said in a shelter in Cebreros, west of Madrid.
A third fire in Avila province was on the verge or may have already merged with the two in Madrid, Nicanor Sen, the government representative for the Castile and Leon region, told reporters. Spanish police said they had arrested one person and were investigating another suspected of starting that fire by using heavy machinery in a prohibited area.
The area west of Madrid, where many residents from the capital have second homes, is densely populated. In just one development 43 homes âhad been destroyed, Diaz Ayuso said.
That played a role âin the government decision to declare a national â emergency, Grande-Marlaska said.
It is the second consecutive year that Spain has faced a particularly destructive fire season.
More than 29 major fires have broken out in Spain so far this year, damaging a surface area five times greater than at the same stage in 2025, when a record area was destroyed, Environment Minister Sara Aagesen said in âa social media post.
Heat hit crops, nuclear plant cooling
Wildfires have burned more land in Europe already this year than the annual average in the past two âdecades, data shows as the worldâs fastest-warming continent â has endured three stifling, virtually back-to-back heatwaves so far this year.
Scientists say human-driven climate change is increasing the intensity of heatwaves, droughts and wildfires, while also creating conditions for sudden, destructive storms.
Greece was sending two firefighting aircraft to Spain, and Croatia provided a similar plane and staff to aid France while Italy dispatched a firefighting plane to Tunisia which also has wildfires, authorities said.
After a short reprieve over the weekend, average temperatures in France are expected to rise sharply â again next week, âaccording to official weather forecaster Meteo France. The high temperatures are expected to warm French rivers that cool nuclear reactors and could lead âto reduced power output. The Golfech 2 nuclear reactor in southern France has remained offline since July 7 due to heat-related restrictions, operator EDFâs data showed.
Weeks of hot weather are also taking a toll on the condition of the maize crop in France.

NATOâs TorrejĂłn command ordered Romanian F-16 to shoot down Shahed-type drone
A Romanian Air Force F-16 fighter jet shot down a drone that had entered Romaniaâs airspace on Friday morning, marking the first time the country has destroyed an aerial intruder over its own territory. The decision to engage the target was taken by NATOâs Combined Air Operations Centre in TorrejĂłn, Spain.
According to EUaliveâs media partner Espress, Romanian Ministry of National Defence (MApN) officials confirmed in a press conference that the drone was classified as a âhostileâ element by the NATO command in TorrejĂłn and that the order to shoot it down was issued from there.
President NicuÈor Dan announced the incident shortly after it occurred, stating that a Romanian pilot flying an F-16 had downed the drone around 11:00 local time. âWe had a drone in the airspace. It was shot down a few minutes ago, around 11:00, by a Romanian pilot on an F-16,â he said. Dan underlined that the drone was over an uninhabited area near the locality of Padina in BuzÄu County, allowing the pilot to fire safely from above.
Radar systems of the Romanian Ministry of Defence first detected the aerial target at 09:39, approximately 20 km east of Sulina on the Black Sea coast. It entered national airspace and followed a trajectory towards BrÄila, FeteÈti and BuzÄu. Two Italian Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons, deployed at Mihail KogÄlniceanu Air Base under NATOâs Air Policing mission, scrambled at 09:48. Two Romanian F-16s from the 86th Air Base at FeteÈti took off later, at 10:56.
The Italian jets attempted an engagement but missed. A Romanian F-16 subsequently locked onto the target and destroyed it with a missile at 11:02 over the uninhabited area near Padina.
Pilots who visually identified the drone reported that it was of Shahed type â the Iranian-designed kamikaze drones (also known as Geran-2 in Russian service) that Russia has extensively used against Ukraine. Officials stressed that the drone was not heading towards FeteÈti Air Base or Bucharest.
The overnight period preceding the incident had already been marked by intense hostile activity near Romanian airspace, particularly in the Odesa area, with repeated air-raid alerts.
NATOâs Allied Air Command later described the operation as a successful multinational effort under alliance command and control, underlining that NATO remains ready to respond to any potential air threats around the clock to protect Allied territory and populations.
Investigations into the wreckage and the precise origin of the drone are ongoing. The incident is the first confirmed case of a NATO member state shooting down a drone deep inside its own airspace since the start of Russiaâs full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

NâĂ©tant pas un observateur de la vie politique en Ukraine, je laisse Ă dâautres le soin dâexpliquer les ressorts et les consĂ©quences pour leur sociĂ©tĂ©. Mais dans cette publication, je voudrais souligner un aspect trĂšs important concernant cette vague de nominations que je pourrais rĂ©sumer par une querelle, par nature infinie, « entre les Anciens et les Modernes », une polĂ©mique liĂ©e Ă la transformation de la guerre et Ă la difficultĂ© pour les institutions militaires de se rĂ©former.
La guerre en Ukraine sâest complĂštement transformĂ©e au point de rĂ©volutionner le systĂšme de dĂ©fense
Contrairement aux apparences, ce ne sont pas deux personnalitĂ©s incompatibles, le ministre de la dĂ©fense Fedorov et le gĂ©nĂ©ral Syrsky, chef dâĂ©tat-major des armĂ©es, que le prĂ©sident Zelensky a dĂ» sĂ©parer, mais deux approches complĂštement diffĂ©rentes de la guerre.
En effet, la guerre en Ukraine sâest transformĂ©e, notamment depuis 2025 avec lâemploi massif de drones et lâutilisation de lâIntelligence Artificielle. Celle-ci permet de se dĂ©faire des contraintes de pilotage physique (plus besoin dâavoir un pilote par drone) et dans une large mesure du brouillage (le drone sâautopilote) : il nâa quasiment plus besoin de recevoir des instructions en vol dĂšs lors quâil sait reconnaĂźtre le terrain quâil survole et mĂȘme les cibles quâil cherche Ă atteindre.
Plus largement encore, la digitalisation de la guerre, â la transformation en donnĂ©es numĂ©riques des multiples informations recueillies par dâinnombrables rĂ©seaux de capteurs â, et lâexploitation de ces donnĂ©es par lâIA (une fois encore) gĂ©nĂšrent et dĂ©veloppent de nouvelles techniques dâattaque, et donc de nouvelles possibilitĂ©s de mettre en difficultĂ© la Russie pourtant surpuissante militairementâŠ

Non, ce sont des jeunes femmes et hommes, dont les armes ne sont clairement pas le mĂ©tier et qui se battent avec ces nouvelles technologies quâils manient comme une Ă©vidence, mais dans une maniĂšre de faire qui nâa plus grand-chose Ă voir avec une armĂ©e traditionnelle faite de hiĂ©rarchie et dâobĂ©issance silencieuseâŠ

Le gĂ©nĂ©ral Syrsky, le chef dâĂ©tat-major qui vient dâĂȘtre limogĂ© par le prĂ©sident Zelensky, est emblĂ©matique de cette armĂ©e conventionnelle, formĂ©e dâailleurs Ă la russe, pour ne pas dire Ă la soviĂ©tique. Il Ă©tait Ă la tĂȘte dâune organisation pyramidale et obĂ©issante, mĂȘme si la rĂ©alitĂ© militaire ukrainienne est plutĂŽt une mosaĂŻque complexe, hĂ©ritage dâune histoire chaotique et dâaffrontements depuis 2014 pas seulement contre les Russes, mais aussi entre des unitĂ©s territoriales, des commandements spĂ©cialisĂ©s (comme les services spĂ©ciaux ou les drones) et des rĂ©giments quasi-autonomes.

Deux approches incompatibles oĂč Zelensky a Ă©tĂ© forcĂ© dâintervenir

Un nouveau monde dans lequel Syrsky fait figure de dinosaure, pas seulement du fait de son Ăąge canonique (le mĂȘme que le mien, 60 ans) mais surtout pour son incomprĂ©hension de cette rĂ©volution technologique et culturelle qui rend obsolĂšte lâinstitution militaire actuelle, celle quâil commandait.
Des institutions de défense désormais dirigées par des quarantenaires
Le prĂ©sident Zelensky (48 ans) a dĂ» manĆuvrer avec habiletĂ© pour ne pas froisser la partie la plus conservatrice de lâinstitution militaire dont Syrsky est emblĂ©matique, en particulier lorsque ce dernier est venu lui rĂ©clamer de sortir ce jeune ministre de la dĂ©fense (35 ans) qui dĂ©stabilisait lâestablishment militaire et ses maniĂšres de faire.
Le prĂ©sident ukrainien a donc limogĂ© Fedorov, provoquant la « levĂ©e de boucliers » dâune gĂ©nĂ©ration qui nâa pas lâintention dâĂȘtre envoyĂ©e au front comme de la chair Ă canon. Alors, Zelensky a limogĂ© le gĂ©nĂ©ral Syrsky dans les jours qui ont suivi pour le remplacer par un profil hybride, le gĂ©nĂ©ral Drapaty, reconnu par lâinstitution militaire comme un militaire expĂ©rimentĂ© et courageux, mais dâune gĂ©nĂ©ration (42 ans) qui rend caduc la domination de lâarmĂ©e par les plus anciens, ceux-lĂ mĂȘme qui peinent Ă comprendre que cette rĂ©volution de la guerre appelle aussi une transformation rĂ©elle et profonde de lâappareil militaire.
Certains auront notĂ© que les Ukrainiens se sont beaucoup (largement ?) exprimĂ© concernant leur dĂ©saccord avec lâĂ©viction de Fedorov le ministre de la dĂ©fense, dâautant que lâĂ©tat de guerre reportant sine die la tenue dâĂ©lections, il faut aux citoyens ukrainiens trouver dâautres moyens dâexprimer leur opinion. LĂ encore, cette gĂ©nĂ©ration des Modernes utilise avec maĂźtrise ces rĂ©seaux sociaux qui semblent largement relayĂ©s sans vraiment pouvoir en mesurer lâaudience rĂ©elle.
Une victoire incontestable des Modernes qui devrait interroger aussi nos défenses occidentales
En tout Ă©tat de cause, ce sont ces Modernes qui ont obtenu le dĂ©part du gĂ©nĂ©ral Syrsky quels que soient ses mĂ©rites, et son remplacement Ă la tĂȘte des armĂ©es (en tant que militaire car le chef des armĂ©es reste Ă©videmment le prĂ©sident) par le gĂ©nĂ©ral Drapaty de 42 ans, une gĂ©nĂ©ration plus jeune.
A titre de comparaison, dans nos armĂ©es occidentales, un brillant officier avec tous les sacrements (diplĂŽmes, brevets et expĂ©riences guerriĂšres) ne peut espĂ©rer Ă cet Ăąge ĂȘtre plus quâun « jeune » colonel qui attendra des annĂ©es encore pour passer gĂ©nĂ©ral, et la toute fin de sa carriĂšre pour accĂ©der aux fonctions de chef dâĂ©tat-major des armĂ©es, donc pas avant 55 ans pour prĂ©server « la pyramide des Ăąges » chĂšre Ă lâinstitution militaireâŠ
Cela en dit long sur les bouleversements que connaĂźt lâarmĂ©e ukrainienne confrontĂ©e Ă cette guerre en rĂ©volution et qui cherche Ă transformer un systĂšme militaire rĂ©volu. Il serait intĂ©ressant dĂšs lors dâĂ©tendre ce questionnement Ă nos propres institutions de dĂ©fense, empreintes de conservatisme et de traditions dans un monde qui se rĂ©volutionne sans crier gare ni prĂ©venir. Face Ă cette rĂ©volution de la guerre, quid de nos armĂ©es occidentales ?

Reprise des nĂ©gociations par les Etats-Unis ?Dans ce contexte de transformations au pluriel, les nĂ©gociations avec la Russie de Poutine semblent avoir repris. Elles nâavaient jamais rĂ©ellement cessĂ©, mais Poutine avait clairement affichĂ© quâil ne nĂ©gocierait rien tant quâil nâobtiendrait pas au moins le Donbass, dont il lui manque toujours prĂšs de 5 000 km2.

Il nây a que Xenia Fedorova, lâamie trop proche de M.BollorĂ©, pour affirmer avec lâextrĂȘme-droite sur Cnews que Poutine veut la paix (et que la libertĂ© dâexpression est menacĂ©e en France). Ce dernier est surtout trĂšs emmerdĂ© par les frappes ukrainiennes en profondeur sur son territoire qui incendient des infrastructures pĂ©troliĂšres, Ă©lectriques et maintenant marchandes, importantes pour les Russes au quotidien, ces derniers ne comprenant pas ce retour de flammes dĂ» Ă une opĂ©ration militaire spĂ©ciale qui nâĂ©tait pas censĂ©e durer.
Marco Rubio, le ministre des Affaires Ă©trangĂšres des USA, a donc repris la main pour discuter avec SergueĂŻ Lavrov son homologue russe, et rĂ©animer des discussions que Moscou avait pris soin dâanesthĂ©sier. De son cĂŽtĂ©, le prĂ©sident Zelensky a appelĂ© les nĂ©gociateurs officiels de Trump, Witkoff et Kushner, mais ces derniers sont empĂȘtrĂ©s dans cette affaire du Golfe persique dont la faction la plus dure des Gardiens de la rĂ©volution (une autre rĂ©volutionâŠ) en Iran essaye dâenliser les Etats-Unis.
Une situation intenable Ă terme pour PoutineImpossible dans ces conditions dâapercevoir une lumiĂšre au bout du tunnel, la seule certitude est que cette situation est intenable Ă terme pour Poutine alors que les EuropĂ©ens font dĂ©monstration dâune cohĂ©sion inattendue et bienvenue pour soutenir la rĂ©sistance ukrainienne, avec ou sans les Etats-Unis. Mon regret est que les EuropĂ©ens nâarrivent pas encore Ă dĂ©signer leur reprĂ©sentant spĂ©cial pour nĂ©gocier en leur nom cette sortie de guerre sans se laisser impressionner par ce maĂźtre du Kremlin qui ne maĂźtrise plus rien.

I'm also exploring Buttondown, a newsletter mailing list software, which uses Markdown as its native format for composing emails, as part of my job managing a WordPress site for a non-profit. Buttondown can subscribe to any RSS feed and turn the items into a draft email (with the items' content converted from HTML to Markdown) that you can then tweak before sending it out to subscribers. I was able to create a custom RSS feed out of WordPress that has source:markdown content for its items, and now I'm trying to convince the Buttondown people to parse that out and have it appear in the draft without modification.

I've managed to get rss chat running on my Raspberry pi. Email via sendgrid working.
I could not get the whitelist to work, pasted the example into the config, changed the example emails, but then the server will not start?
Not a real problem as it only is accessible on the local network so far.

Subscribe to https://news.rss.chat/worknotes/rss.xml and every improvement to rss.chat arrives as it ships -- the worknotes from the server and the client, together in one feed, newest first. Each item carries a category element saying which side it came from, so a reader that filters by category can follow just one. The feed announces updates over rssCloud, so subscribers who speak it hear within seconds. And in the spirit of a product built on RSS: the feed is generated by a script you can read, published right next to the feed itself -- worknotesFeed.belt. If you run an rss.chat server, this feed is the way to hear about updates like the security fix of 7/23 the moment they're posted. You're reading the first item that was born in the feed.

I'm thinking about maybe writing my blog from here, you know -- the one on scripting.com.
It wouldn't be that hard. I would use one of the static site generators out there.
It would just monitor my feed here, and keep them in sync.
What's the most popular site generator these days? I have no clue. But I have friends and I'm sure Claude has an idea.

Dear podcast client devs
Podcast client developers -- don't give up like this guy did. Yes RSS is delicious but you all haven't done anything new with it since 2004 or so. No wonder the competition is catching up, they're actually delivering new features while you all haven't done a thing. RSS is like other web stuff, if you want to move forward you have to do things that will help your competitors. Stick your neck out, innovate, and smile when your competitors copy it. There is more to do.
Subscribable subscription lists would allow anyone to maintain a list of great podcasts, curated -- like a mutual fund, or a top 20 list. This has always been the problem with podcasting. Find me something good to listen to now. All the shows tend to repeat. I've heard that cast before, I say as I tell Pocket Casts not to add it to my queue. Discovery needs to be easy. This one feature will give me infinite options. And give other developers, not client devs, to enhance the whole field of podcasting. The user would just tell you which sub service they're using, and the rest is code. And not particularly difficult code.
I want to subscribe to a list that's maintained by people who listen to 100s of casts. And when I get tired of them, I'll fire all my guides and add some others.
This is one step more complex than handling OPML subscription lists for import and export, which you all already do. Now if you don't understand this, and why it's appealing them imho your client deserves to die a honorable death. If your mind is alive, then get with it, and I will help, and btw we can easily create apps that make it easy. We just need nodes on the network whose purpose is to maintain sub lists.
Here's the deal. I really did put together the system that makes podcasting work. Top to bottom. Would it kill you to listen to what I think the next step is? I can't hurt you, and I don't want to. I just want to see the thing that we all created by unwittingly working together, where you have to be overt in the working together to have a chance of surviving the boredom users feel by these products only getting superficial upgrades.
It's time to rock the f'ing boat! :-)
